ART PILGRIMAGE TO ITALY

Jagriti Art Initiative embarked on an ART PILGRIMAGE to Italy from 29th Sept till 7th Oct 2010 covering Venezia, Firenze, Milano, Siena, San Gimignano & Pisa.

Participating artists in this program were Rameshwar Broota, Vasundhara Broota, Manu Parekh, Madhvi Parekh, Paramjit Singh, K Laxma Goud, Surya Prakash, Natraj Sharma, Gargi Raina & Chhatrapati Dutta.

In Milan the artists visited the historic Cimetiere Monumentale (since 1866) , Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana (1996) which houses the original drawings of Leonadro Da Vinci (Codex Atlanticus) besides very significant seventeenth century Lombard Paintings, Santa Maria delle Grazie to see Last Supper , Castello Sforzesco besides visit to the historic La Scala Theater & Museum and Duomo Cathedral.

In Florence the artists visited Museo Nazionale Del Bargello (which houses works of Rustici, Leonardo, Larciani, Verrocchio, Lippi, Lorenzo, Maiano, Donatello) to name a few. They also visited Palazzo Pitti (1748) which houses collections in 30 rooms starting from the time of Pietro Leopoldo up to the 1st World War. The Uffizi Gallery and the Galleria del' Academia (which covers works of Masters like Melozzo, Michelangelo, Raffaello, Leonardo, Botticelli, Tiziano, Caravaggio, Lippi, Sistina and Madonne) were also covered in detail besides other historic sites, cathedrals and the Duomo. A Piano (by Sara Danti) and Flute (by Lauro Pistoi) Concert was also attended at the famous Chiesa di Santo Stefano Ponte Vecchio.

The Artists also got an opportunity to see the Tuscany region and visit important towns like Siena to see Piazza del Campo & Basilica di S.Francisco, Chianti Vineyards, San Gimmignano to see Piazza del Cisterna and the one of the wonders of the world - the leaning Tower of Pisa.

The last leg of the journey covered Venizia where the artists had the opportunity to view the famed Peggy Guggenheim collection at Palazzo Venier dei Leoni Dorsoduro, Gallery del' Academia di Venezia, Basilica S.Maria, Gloriosa Dei Frari, viewing the Fracois Pinault Collection at Punta della Dogana besides other historic sites and museums.

Mrs Angela Trezza Cabrales of the Istituto Italiano di Cultura at New Dehli has played a postive role in giving this cultural exchange a direction being organised by us.
