GMB Films (P) Ltd and SEEDS have come together to host- an Art initiative-'JAGRITI-SEEDS' . This Exhibition aimed to raise funds to help SEEDS in their efforts to improve the living conditions of the underprivileged locals of the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forests in the world.
Sundarban Environment & Eco-Development Society (SEEDS), an NGO dedicated to wildlife conservation in the Sundarbans is working in the areas of conservation of Tigers, saving of Olive Ridley Turtles, besides undertaking the mammoth task of training the local people of the area - most of who are below the poverty line. The people are being taught to utilize the natural resources which have self income generating schemes.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the British Deputy High Commissioner - Mr. Simon Wilson. As the Chief Guest on his first major public appearance in the city. The Guests of Honour for the evening were Mr. Sunil Gangopadhyay, a renowned litterateur, the charismatic Mr. Chunni Goswami - a symbol of Kolkata's contribution to international sports and the eminent theatre personality, Ms. Dolly Bose. Among the luminaries present at the opening are other familiar personalities representing the whole spectrum of the Social and Corporate Circle of the City.
